A friend of mine has started delving into the world of blacksmithing. He’s been doing a phenomenal job and has been focusing a lot of that time making knives. He reached out to me to ask if I would carve a handle for a knife he wanted to give to his daughter. I obliged. I asked him to give me an idea of how he envisioned the layout and he sent me a sketch. He then sent a block of wood called Ipe (pronounced ee-pay). Ipe is a very hard wood and wasn’t suitable to carve using hand tools so I pulled out my RAM 45 rotary carver which made it doable.
